The Philippines’ Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced the commencement of the last phase of the Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC) construction project.

The eight-storey building, located in Barangay Santa Elena, Marikina City, is expected to be completed by December this year.

Since 2021, the project has been allocated a total of 350m pesos ($6.07m) by the DPWH.

The DPWH Metro Manila 1st District Engineering Office, led by Aristotle Ramos, has reported the completion of the first five phases.

The completed phases included foundation, structural, architectural, electrical, and mechanical works, as well as the construction of a covered basketball court.

The sixth and final phase, which began earlier this month, will focus on the remaining works for the basketball court and other finishing touches.

Upon completion, the building will have a total floor area of 9,271,00m² and will provide MPC additional classrooms, administrative offices, an events area, and other activity spaces.

In addition, the DPWH is working on a bypass road in Pampanga in the country.

The Malino-Suclaban Bypass Road project, overseen by DPWH Regional Office 3 director Roseller Tolentino, has recently finished an 838-lineal-metre section.

This 105m pesos project aims to ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time to Angeles City and Clark Freeport Area to just 30 minutes.

The bypass road's construction is being carried out in stages, with 23.23m pesos allocated for first-phase road opening and 55.74m pesos for second-phase road concreting.

The third phase, costing 19.8m pesos, will include stone masonry, thermoplastic pavement markings, and drainage blocks.

Tolentino said: “Construction of this new bypass road will ensure that motorist and commuters will have an additional route for hassle-free travel while also paving the way for potential economic growth through developments and improvements along its path.”

Earlier this month, the DPWH announced the completion of construction of its Bay View Boulevard project in Abulug, Cagayan.
