TYLin, in partnership with AtkinsRéalis, has been chosen to deliver detailed design services and construction phase services for the new Île d'Orléans Bridge in Canada.

TYLin, a full-service infrastructure consulting company, will serve as the lead bridge engineer.

This bridge design is the outcome of a cooperation between local and international partners, forming the Groupe Héritage Île d'Orléans (GHIO).

TYLin's client GHIO comprises Dragados Canada, and EBC, which secured the contract for constructing the new bridge.

This bridge, spanning approximately 2.1km, will connect Québec City to Île d'Orléans across the St. Lawrence River.

The design of the new bridge aims to enhance the connection between the Capitale-Nationale and Île d'Orléans.

Its structure includes a 520m north approach, a 790m three-span cable-stayed main bridge, and a 740m south approach.

The bridge's superstructure is designed to be continuous, featuring two expansion joints for reduced maintenance.

The crossing will accommodate a 3.5m-wide traffic lane in each direction and 2.5m-wide shoulders.

Additionally, it will feature 3m-wide multipurpose paths on both sides, facilitating maintenance vehicle access.

The design also integrates four belvederes at the deck level of the north and south pylon legs, providing views of Montmorency Falls and downtown Québec City.

The bridge's V-shaped pylons are designed without bracing.

In addition, TYLin will collaborate with Fugro for geotechnical investigations, Tourney Consulting Group for durability studies, and Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory for wind studies.

TYLin bridge sector leader Marwan Nader said: “This project represents critical infrastructure for Québec and underscores TYLin's presence as a premier structural engineer in the region.

“We are thrilled to serve as lead bridge engineer and proud to help bring this vitally important project to life.”

In February this year, TYLin, alongside Hatch, was chosen to offer detailed design and construction phase services for the new Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge in Québec.
