The building accommodating central and regional offices Austrian Pension Fund (PVA) and the Centre for Outpatient Rehabilitation in Vienna is set to undergo a renovation.

STRABAG and EQUANS won the bidding process for the project.

Work on the project is expected to begin shortly, aiming for completion by 2027.

The renovation will address ageing infrastructure issues and upgrade the building's technical services.

After operating for over four decades in Vienna's second district, the building has shown signs of wear, such as leaking ceilings and inadequate thermal insulation.

The renovation will address these issues as well as focus on ecological sustainability, particularly in the energy supply.

The PVA has chosen to renovate the existing structure rather than demolish it.

This decision will keep the structural frame intact, avoiding the use of new steel or concrete.

STRABAG subsidiary Metallica is said to face the challenge of creating a new aluminium-glass façade, with all materials selected for their recyclability.

The renovation extends to modernising building services equipment and refurbishing the roof and rooftop structures.

All utilities in the building including power, heating, and cooling systems will be updated.

A green roof and special landscaping will contribute to the urban microclimate, providing communal benefits and protection against summer heat.

STRABAG Austria division head and member of the management board Markus Engerth said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this large order and that we’ve been given the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in reconstruction, conversion and refurbishment with this project.”

STRABAG stated that in line with its PEOPLE. PLANET. PROGRESS strategy, it is committed to deliver a comprehensive solution for the project,.

In 2022, STRABAG broke ground on Circular Construction & Technology Center at an earlier oil port in Bremen, Germany.
