Glencar Construction has broken ground on a logistics and industrial unit at the Junction gateway development in Luton, England, UK, for client Wrenbridge.

The new unit, spanning 213,874ft², is part of a master plan designed to enhance business and logistics operations in the area.

It will incorporate a mix of space uses such as flexible workplaces, research and development, and distribution.

Junction is expected to contribute approximately £160m ($200.31m) annually to Luton’s economy and generate 2,500 jobs.

Glencar’s responsibilities include the design of an earthworks package that will reshape the 4.46ha plot, bisected by Newlands Road.

The project’s scope includes the design and construction of Unit 1, a gateway industrial and logistics unit with an 18m clear height to the underside of the haunch.

The construction plan also encompasses a Category A office fit-out, the erection of diverse retaining structures, and new underground drainage and services.

It further includes external works, including soft landscaping.

The Junction is located on the outskirts of Luton, near the M1 motorway and A1081 road, and is said to have been earmarked in the Luton Local Plan as a key employment zone.

Glencar regional managing director Pete Goodman said: “This project serves as the fifth undertaking we have implemented to date with Wrenbridge over the past few years with us also being on site currently in Basingstoke, building a 209,461ft² speculative industrial unit for Wrenbridge just south of the A339.”

In May last year, Glencar was contracted by port operator Peel Ports Group to carry out the construction of a warehouse facility at the Port of Liverpool.
