Granite has secured a long-term lease for a new construction materials facility at the Port of Woodland next to the Columbia River in Washington, US.

Expected to commence operations in 2025, the facility will be located on a 25-acre site.

This new facility will supply construction materials to the Southwest Washington area, particularly for road construction, building projects, and infrastructure improvements.

The facility is poised to enhance Granite’s business operations in the region, strengthening its capacity and presence along the Interstate 5 corridor.

It will cater to the increasing demand in Cowlitz and Clark County.

The Port of Woodland location will also enable Granite to advance its sustainability goals by improving resource efficiency and promoting responsible consumption and production practices.

In collaboration with the Port, Granite plans to increase the availability of asphaltic concrete for the maintenance and development of pavement infrastructure.

This infrastructure supports seamless transportation of goods and the connection of communities.

Granite Senior Construction Materials vice-president Brad Estes said: “We are thrilled to partner with the Port of Woodland. This facility represents a significant investment in our local community, and we look forward to delivering high-quality materials to support transportation infrastructure projects throughout the region.

“Our asphalt paving manufacturing will utilise up to 40% recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) providing a sustainable product with lower GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions while reducing truck trips and the use of petroleum products.”

In addition, the establishment of the facility is anticipated to generate employment opportunities and contribute to the economic vitality of the area.

Last month, Granite secured a subcontract to support the United Airlines Terminal B Airside Transformation programme at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, US.
