UK-based St Martin’s Property Investments has appointed construction company Galliford Try to undertake the renovation project of Adelaide House in Central London, UK.

The contract was awarded to Galliford’s Building London and South East Commercial unit.

The scope of the £72m ($94m) remodelling and refurbishment project involves the transformation of the nine-storey, Grade II-listed building into a Category A office-grade property.

Galliford CEO Bill Hocking said: “We are delighted to be working with St Martin’s on this landmark building with a prestigious location on the banks of the Thames.

“Our Building team has a proud record of delivering high-quality, sustainable office spaces within the capital.”

Adelaide House was first constructed in 1924 and is located near London Bridge. It was the city’s first steel-frame building.

UK-based architect Scott Brownrigg’s design will include reconfiguration and improvement work on outdoor spaces such as the roof and riverfront gardens and will be certified to BREEAM Excellent standards.

The design also features bike storage and changing facilities double the number recommended by the British Council of Offices.

London’s council granted planning approval for the project in June 2021.

In June this year, Galliford started works on the Carlisle Southern Link Road in Cumberland, UK, with an investment of approximately £140m.

With a length of 8km, the new route is expected to link Junction 42 of the M6 motorway with the A595 at Newby West.
