Ferrovial, through its subsidiary Webber, has been awarded a $538m contract to construct the Mary’s Creek Water Reclamation Facility in Fort Worth, Texas.

This project represents the company's most significant US water infrastructure undertaking to date.

The new plant, designed to process 10 million gallons of water per day, will significantly increase wastewater treatment capacity for the rapidly developing western area of Fort Worth.

Scheduled to break ground in November 2026, the facility is anticipated to be completed by the summer of 2030.

The scope of the project includes the construction of equalisation and peak flow storage basins with mixing systems, preliminary treatment facilities featuring screening and grit removal, bioreactors, membrane bioreactor (MBR) advanced treatment systems, and solids handling systems.

The contract also covers the installation of odour control facilities and associated electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.

Once operational, the Mary’s Creek facility will deliver reclaimed water suitable for industrial and irrigation uses in addition to meeting discharge permit requirements set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the City of Fort Worth government said.

As part of the overall design, the facility employs advanced nutrient removal and membrane bioreactor technology.

The City of Fort Worth noted that while as much treated water as possible will be conveyed directly to customers for reuse, surplus water will be released into Mary’s Creek in compliance with environmental regulations.

Ferrovial Construction CEO Ignacio Gaston said: “As communities across Texas continue to grow, so does the need for reliable water infrastructure. We’re proud to work with the city of Fort Worth on a project that will help strengthen the region’s water infrastructure and support its long-term growth.”
