Bouygues Construction has been awarded the main contract to construct the Overdale Acute Hospital in Jersey, Channel Islands, through its subsidiary Bouygues UK.
The Government of Jersey confirmed the appointment of Bouygues UK after a procurement process that began with the company being named preferred bidder in November 2025.
The project is expected to see construction begin later in 2026, with the new hospital scheduled to open in 2030.
It forms part of Jersey’s New Healthcare Facilities Programme (NHFP) and was estimated to cost £710m ($944.9m) when a detailed planning application was submitted in 2024.
The facility will occupy a 47,500m² site and is set to feature an Emergency Department, multiple inpatient and intensive care beds, six operating theatres, and a mother and baby unit.
One of the stated priorities for the project is environmental impact, with plans to use optimised design principles, energy-efficient systems and low-carbon building materials, aiming for a biodiversity net gain of over 10%.

The Government of Jersey anticipates the project will need to address several challenges, including complex logistics associated with large-scale hospital construction and managing an on-site workforce that could reach 800 people at peak periods.

The project forms a core part of Jersey’s ten-year programme to modernise its healthcare estate and reflects a design based on feedback from clinical user groups, to optimise the patient care environment and future-proof the facility’s use.
Earlier this month, Bouygues Construction acquired Vannoy Construction, a general contractor operating in the south-eastern US. The company stated that the acquisition aims to enhance its position in the US market and advance its international expansion strategy.
