Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology is participating in the construction of China’s fifth Antarctic research station in the Ross Sea.

The company’s ZCT600V5 telescopic boom crawler cranes are carrying out operations such as material unloading and the station’s steel structure assembly.

The new research station, which is currently under construction on Inexpressible Island in Terra Nova Bay, spans 5,244m².

This project is said to serve as proof of ‘intensive, efficient, green, low-carbon, and advanced intelligent construction’.

With a completion timeline of 60 days, the station will accommodate up to 80 researchers, facilitating multidisciplinary studies in various scientific fields such as atmospheric, marine environments, and biological ecology.

Work at the research station is seeing the use of a large-scale modular construction technology to reduce on-site work.

It consists of 84 large modules that will be fitted onto the main steel structure’s floor, with utilities prepared for immediate use.

Zoomlion’s cranes, which were instrumental in the modules’ customisation and preassembly in China, continue to support the construction efforts in Antarctica.

The ZCT600V5 features a 46m U-shaped boom, modular design, and a large-track-width telescopic crawler chassis.

With custom non-slip tracks and climbing abilities, the large-track-width telescopic crawler chassis is suitable for complex lifting tasks in challenging environments.

The crane’s 20-tonne counterweight contributes to the efficiency of the construction process.
