German company wpd has agreed to construct two wind farms, worth €300m, in western Bosnia, reported Reuters.

As per the deal, the two wind farms will be built in the towns of Glamoc and Bosansko Grahovo of Bosnia’s autonomous Bosniak-Croat Federation.

The deal was signed by Federation’s Canton 10 prime Minister Ivan Vukadin and wpd development manager Andreas Chollet.

These two wind farms form the first part of the company’s larger investment plan of €1.5bn.

This plan will feature two more wind farms to be built in the nearby town of Livno, including a wind park to produce 1GW of electricity.

Western Bosnia features high plateaux, making it suitable for power production from wind.

Last year, a consortium of Chinese firms agreed last year to construct an 84MW wind farm at a cost of about €100m in the area, close to the town Tomislavgrad in Bosnia.

Currently, Bosnia generates almost all its power from coal and hydro but intends to boost output from renewables.

It is largest power exporter in the Western Balkans, with energy production representing 20% of its GDP.
