Construction has started on a new ambulance station at Caves Beach, Lake Macquarie, as part of the New South Wales (NSW) Government’s A$615.5m ($438m) NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Programme.
Work on the facility began after a site event attended by the Minister for the Hunter and Member for Swansea, Yasmin Catley, along with local paramedics.

The new station is being built at Kayuga Close and is intended to support emergency medical response across Caves Beach, Swansea and the broader Lake Macquarie area.
The project will give front-line paramedics a modern base and expand capacity to meet rising demand from the local community.
The purpose-built facility will feature eight ambulance parking bays, including one dedicated wash bay.
The plans also include administrative offices, logistics and storage areas, on-site parking and staff amenities such as a gym.
Construction firm Lipman was appointed as the main contractor following a tender process and receipt of planning approval.
Initial site establishment works have begun, with construction activity expected to increase in the coming months.
According to the project timeline, the station is scheduled for completion in late 2027.
NSW Ambulance chose Caves Beach as the station location following a service-planning process that reviewed Triple Zero (000) call volumes and regional response requirements.
The Caves Beach facility is one of 30 new ambulance stations being built under the NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Programme, spanning Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle, and the Hunter and Illawarra regions.
Other recent investments in Hunter include stations at Gateshead, North Rothbury, East Maitland and Edgeworth.
In addition, the NSW government is recruiting 500 more paramedics for rural and regional communities to strengthen emergency and mobile healthcare services across the state.
NSW Minister for Health Ryan Park said: “This new station will provide local paramedics with modern facilities designed to support them as they continue delivering high-quality emergency care.
“We’re building more ambulance stations and recruiting more paramedics in regional NSW, delivering faster response times and better outcomes for patients.”
Last month, the NSW Government granted planning approval for a new A$2bn ($1.4bn) Bankstown Hospital in Bankstown’s central business district in Sydney.
