Wheat Quarter has signed a construction agreement with Hill Partnerships to renovate the former Shredded Wheat Factory buildings in Welwyn Garden City, the UK.

The project involves refurbishment of Wheat Quarter’s listed production hall, silos as well as art centre.

Plans for the redevelopment project also includes construction of approximately 1,200 homes in ten-storeys building around the factory site in Welwyn Garden City.

The planning application for the new development have also been lodged and yet to be considered by the local planning committee.

The project will be a combination of residential care, rented housing sector, community and commercial hub dwellings.

As part of a package deal, Hill will also be responsible for the delivery of new Louis de Soissons Building and Bridge Community Building.

Garden City.”

Metropolitan entered into an agreement last year to deliver affordable housing on the south site of the factory.

Wheat Quarter project director John West said: “Having created the platform for Metropolitan to be on site today delivering affordable housing on the south site, we hope to receive planning approval for our improved scheme on the north site in the coming months and start work later this year for the final phase of this landmark site.”
