Watercare is seeking domestic and international contractors to deliver two wastewater projects in Auckland’s western suburbs, with a combined value of about NZ$500m ($282m).
Expressions of interest for the Avondale Collector Project will open on 13 November, while the process for the Motions Wastewater Catchment Improvements Project is scheduled to begin in early 2027.

The schemes will connect western wastewater catchments to Auckland’s Central Interceptor tunnel.
Watercare said this would reduce overflows into streams and harbours while creating additional capacity for future development.
The Motions project includes a 3.2km wastewater tunnel and 1.7km of connecting pipes between the Motions catchment and the Central Interceptor at Western Springs.
This infrastructure is designed to cut overflows into Motions Creek and nearby waterways, Watercare said.
The Avondale project comprises a 2.35km wastewater tunnel and 650m of connection pipes. It is intended to divert flows to the Central Interceptor and support redevelopment and growth in the area, according to Watercare.
The projects form part of Watercare’s planned NZ$15.2bn capital programme for Auckland’s water and wastewater infrastructure over the next decade.
Watercare chief programme delivery officer Mark Crowle said the work builds on the recently completed Central Interceptor and the Herne Bay Collector, which is being constructed.
“The Central Interceptor is already improving Auckland’s waterways. These projects will extend those benefits by reducing overflows in our western catchments while creating capacity for future growth. They’re also a significant opportunity for contractors who want to help deliver the next generation of city-shaping infrastructure,” Mark Crowle added.
