The Procurement Board of Salford City Council in the UK has approved award contract to deliver new apartments in Wingate Road to support the city residents at risk of homelessness.

The project involves construction of first four one-bedroom apartments out of 28 at the site in Wingate Road.

The 28 apartments will be self-contained supported housing.

Work on the new homes is anticipated to commence later this month, with completion expected in May.
Building contractor Schofield and Sons has been appointed to deliver the new homes.

These new homes will help the council meet the acute needs of the city by providing the move-on accommodation for people looking to move out of emergency housing.

The council is collaborating with organisations for creating affordable homes to address the need of homelessness in the city.

Deputy City Mayor Councillor and lead member for Housing, Property and Regeneration Tracy Kelly said: “We continue to face a critical shortage of affordable housing in Salford and amongst this, we have very few move-on options available to those who are without a home of their own.

“These apartments will therefore provide a real lifeline to those who are struggling. They will ensure they are able to have a roof above their head, an opportunity to live independently and get access to intensive onsite support to help them permanently move away from homelessness.”

At present, the council is providing accommodation for 314 people who remain at risk of rough sleeping or slept rough.
