Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions (Toshiba ESS) has been awarded EPC services contract for the construction of 147MW Onikoube Solar Power Plant in Japan.
Planned to be built in the city of Osaki in Miyagi Prefecture, North East Japan, the Onikoube Solar Power Plant is being developed with an investment of JPY35.5bn ($329m).
Scheduled for commissioning in December 2022, the solar power plant will be built on a 156ha site of an abandoned golf course.
The solar facility will be owned by PurpleSol, an affiliate of Thailand’s renewable energy company Thai Solar Energy Public Company (TSE), is expected to be one of the largest of its kind in the country.
The project involves the construction of the frames that are planned to be placed closer together than in conventional plant design as well as installation of 362,960 solar panels at a steeper angle.
Toshiba ESS expects the solar project to achieve high-efficiency power generation due to its design and construction that accommodate for the slope of the ground and the snowfall.
