Electric carmaker Tesla has filed an application for the construction on an additional 100ha east of its Gruenheide facility in Germany, reported Reuters citing local newspaper rbb.

If it gets planning permission, this will expand the site’s area by a third, rbb reported, quoting Gruenheide Mayor Arne Christiani.

The company currently has 300ha of land for its auto facility and battery factory under construction.

On the further 100ha, the company intends to construct a freight station, logistics areas and parking spaces.

The company’s application will be discussed at a municipality meeting next week.

At full capacity, the Gruenheide plant will manufacture 500,000 electric cars annually.

The plant commenced production in March this year following a host of licensing delays, reported Reuters.

When the company was given final approval to commence production at the existing facility, local suppliers of water had then warned that servicing the plant’s future expansion would not be possible unless water was imported from different regions.
