Strabag and its consortium partner Geiger have won a contract to build a 15.7km section of the A3 motorway between Câmpia Turzii and Chețani in Romania.

Strabag owns 60% share in this €85m contract, while Geiger holds the remaining share.

Construction is set to commence this year and will complete in around 18 months.

Strabag CEO Thomas Birtel said: “This contract further strengthens our leading market position in Romania.

“We have already built two sections of the A3 and this project represents a further contribution on our part to the expansion of the motorway infrastructure in Romania.”

In 2018, Strabag finished construction of the 10.1km section between Ungheni and Ogra and completed another 9.2km section from Ungheni to Târgu Mureș three years later.

Additionally, Strabag is now constructing almost 19km long bypass from Oradea to the A3 for around €110m.

Upon completion, A3 will cover 588km, running from Bucharest through to the commercial centres of Ploiești, Brașov, Cluj-Napoca and Oradea and then to Borș on the Hungarian border, where the road will finally link with Hungary’s M4 motorway.
