Swedish construction and development company Skanska has reached a contract with Vestland County Municipality to construct the new Ytre Steinsund bridge in the municipality of Solund, Norway.

The contract includes the design and construction of an 811m-long bridge, which will replace the Daly-Haldorsneset ferry connection.

The new bridge will feature five spans and aims to provide residents of Ytre Sula with a permanent link to the neighbouring island of Sula and its municipality centre of Hardbakke.

The proposed bridge will be located 50m above sea level.

This project is expected to receive BREEAM Infrastructure’s ‘Very Good’ sustainability rating for design and construction.

Detailed engineering will commence as soon as the related contract is signed. Construction will start in the first quarter of next year and conclude in the final quarter of 2026.
