The Scottish Government has announced a decision to contribute £2m in funding to support the major refurbishment project of the Paisley Museum.

The support was announced during the launch of the Renfrewshire’s Economic Strategy 2020-2030.

The Paisley Museum is operated by Renfrewshire Council. As part of a four-year £42m transformation of the venue, the project is being redesigned by architects AL_A led by Stirling Prize winner Amanda Levete.

The redesigned museum will see the number of objects put on display increase by two-fold.

Once complete, the revamped museum will reopen in 2022 and is expected to register 125,000 visits a year, almost four times the current numbers.

Renfrewshire Council Leader Iain Nicolson said: “Paisley Museum Reimagined will enable us to share our story with the world and create a world-class destination that will attract more visitors to Renfrewshire.
