Maple Grove Blackburn has submitted a planning application for a Skills and Cyber Campus in Blackburn, England, UK.

The company is a joint venture between Maple Grove Developments, part of Eric Wright Group, and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

The application seeks permission for the initial phase of the project, which includes two new buildings accompanied by landscaping and public realm enhancements.

Additionally, outline planning permission is being requested for a second building, which is said to be designed similarly to the adjacent Cathedral Quarter development.

The proposed site for the campus is the former Blackburn Market location on Brown Street.

Maple Grove Developments project director Nick Hague said: “We’ve been working in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council for a number of years and are delighted to be supporting them in bringing forward this hugely ambitious and exciting project.

“The buildings will provide flexibility to the occupants, allowing them to adapt over time, responding to the ever-changing business and academic world we live in.”

This project is a part of the £250m ($316.50m) Blackburn Town Centre Masterplan, which aims to revitalise the town centre.

The master plan, crafted by Building Design Partnership, proposes a transformative vision for the area, including the redevelopment of the Thwaites Brewery site.

The Blackburn Town Centre Masterplan itself is part of an even broader £1bn vision that the council is noted to have for the future of the town.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has secured £20m of national Levelling Up Funding for the scheme.

Discussions are ongoing with the University of Central Lancashire to potentially have its training company, Training 2000, expand and relocate to occupy the first building of the new development.

In January this year, Eric Wright Construction commenced construction on Animate, a £45m leisure and entertainment complex.
