Switzerland Federal Authorities have given planning permission for the Geneva airport ‘aile_EST’, or east wing project, a 520m-long Non-Schengen facility designed by London-based architect firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.
The new design will link the facility to the existing terminal, which was built in the 1970s, enable hosting of jumbo jets and allow the airport to cater to the needs of modern travellers.

The $354m project also involves construction of new Departures and Arrivals Halls, contact stands and gate lounge seating, in addition to first class airline lounges and technical basements.
Based on a collaborative approach with consultants from four countries forming the RBI-T project consortium, the new facility is claimed to be an important enhancement for the airport based on the flexibility of its operation and passenger comfort.
The first phase named Route Douaniere consists of a vehicular tunnel connecting the French sector to the French boarder, which is scheduled for commissioning in March 2015. The new wing will be completed in 2020.
Aile_EST will offer passengers a high standard of reception and boarding services, complementing the success of the terminals other recent projects.
