Swinerton Builders has been selected by Denver International Airport (DIA) to lead the design-build construction of a parking structure to be located on the airport’s east side Jeppesen Terminal.
Addition of the new, four-storey structure will increase the number of public parking spaces at the airport by 1,795.

Construction of the parking lot will require an investment of around $46m and is expected to start this month and take about two years to complete.
DIA acting senior vice-president of commercial Greg Hegarty said: "We are working to improve the parking experience at DIA by adding additional capacity and making other investments in our products that provide the highest level of customer service and value."
A project to add 261 parking spaces adjacent to the north end of the airport’s east parking garage is also nearing completion. Recently, the existing layout had been redesigned and a further 430 vehicle spaces were added to the east and west economy lots.
Following construction of the cast-in-place concrete structure, DIA will offer 19,496 garage parking spaces, managing a total of 43,275 parking spaces.
In an effort to meet the growing demand from air travellers, the airport continually evaluates its parking needs and increases its capacity.
These projects are said to be part of a package of upgrades aimed at improving the experience for the airport’s parking customers, and last year saw the introduction of reserved parking spaces in the east and west parking garages to the airport.
In late 2013, electric vehicle charging stations were installed and a retrofit project replaced more than 5,400 lights in the existing parking garages with energy-efficient LED fixtures to improve lighting and reduce power consumption.
