UK-based property investment and development group Sellar Property Group has received approval from Southwark Council in the UK to build a 26-storey Fielden House project alongside Renzo Piano’s London Shard skyscraper.
In 2013, Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) was appointed by Sellar to design a slender residential tower with generous public realm amenities at street level, to complement the now occupied, Shard and Place buildings.

The building will include 148 new flats, a roof garden, around 1,800m² of shops and 1,200m² of new public space on a site close to London Bridge Station.
It is reported that the scheme had to be redrawn by RPBW after planners raised concerns about the cladding material, rooftop design, public realm and visual impact on the tower of Southwark Cathedral from the west.
The new residential development will replace Fielden House, a 1950s office building on London Bridge Street located between the Shard and the News Building.
Construction at the new development is expected to start by the end of 2015 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.
