Japan-based Nikken Sekkei and Barcelona studio Pascual i Ausió Arquitectes have been selected to design the new Camp Nou stadium in Spain for FC Barcelona.
As part of the new design for the stadium, which was originally designed in 1957 by Francesc Mitjans Miró, the triple-tier structure will be retained and the third tier will be extended.
Also a roof that will cover over 47,000m² would be added to ensure that all seats are sheltered from the weather.
All seats will be designed in such a way that they have a perfect view of the pitch.
Requirements of the new design will also include widening of the aisles.
The jury is made up of five FCB members, three members of the Col-legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC) and one member of Barcelona City Council, and announced the winners after reviewing all the proposals by a technical commission.

By GlobalDataThe proposal, presented by Nikken Sekkei, intends to compliment FC Barcelona’s main basketball arena New Palau Blaugrana that was recently launched and would be designed by HOK + TAC Arquitectes.
The bidding process began with the publication of the regulations and selection criteria and the tender was run over two phases.
Camp Nou will have a capacity to accommodate 105,000 people and would be spread over an area of 104,000km².
Work on the new stadium is expected to begin in the 2017/18 season and will be completed by the 2021/22 season.
The Palau Blaugrana facility will be located on the current site of the Miniestadi, next to the new Camp Nou station and will have four separately functioning spaces.
The facility will also feature a new multi-purpose Palau with capacity to 12,000 spectators for sports events and 12,500 spectators for cultural and social events.
