Developer Knight Dragon has selected construction major Mace as the preferred bidder for the next phase of development of the Greenwich Peninsula in south-east London, UK.

Following a probable contract, Mace will be responsible for developing Knight Dragon’s NO205 scheme in the Upper Riverside District, which includes construction of two buildings of 464 apartments.

The dual structures will be the first in a series of towers on the regeneration site’s Upper Riverside district, and expected to involve an investment of £150m.

This is one of the five new districts planned for the peninsula and is anticipated to include around 1,000 homes in total.

"Greenwich Peninsula has been planned as the largest single regeneration project in London, which is expected to create 15,720 homes [and] 12,000 jobs."

Around £500m has already been spent by Knight Dragon across the 150-acre site, which has 3,000 homes under construction, with 700 due to be completed later in the year.

The firm’s masterplan includes upgrades to the underground and bus links at North Greenwich station, in order to support the new community, which is hoped to expand over the next 20 years.

Knight Dragon construction director Paul Symons said: "Mace will be providing final proposals over the next eight weeks with a view to entering into a contract for the works in October 2015."
