Merton Council has approved planning application for a new 20,000-seater football stadium in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames in London, UK.
The application was jointly submitted by the UK football club AFC Wimbledon and developer Galliard Homes.

The approved planning also includes provision for the construction of 602 homes, retail space, a squash and fitness club, car and cycle parking at the existing greyhound track in Plough Lane, London Borough of Merton.
The development is expected to cost £16m, for which the club has partnered up with Galliard Homes for sharing the funds, reports Construction Enquirer.
Merton Council leader Stephen Alambritis said: "This is an important proposal, which our very experienced planning officers have been looking into in detail over a number of months. We have always said this site should be for sporting intensification.
"Our independent planning committee has taken into account all the planning issues that are relevant. It is now for the Mayor of London to make his decision."

The original Wimbledon football club was forced to leave the old stadium in 1991, after the Taylor Report for the Hillsborough Football Disaster was published.
AFC Wimbledon chief executive Erik Samuelson was quoted by Construction Enquirer as saying: "This is our home and we are delighted that we have been granted planning approval to return to Wimbledon."
Galliard Homes director Mike Watson said: "These new homes will make a significant contribution towards Merton’s own minimum ten year target for new homes and the regeneration of this part of Merton."
