Graham Construction has won a £6.4m bid to construct a space centre in Edinburgh, UK, named after famous particle scientist Peter Higgs.
The Higgs Centre for Innovation has been planned to be developed at the UK Astronomy Technology Centre’s (ATC) Royal Observatory site in the city, in partnership with the University of Edinburgh.
UK ATC is operated by Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).
UK had announced plans for the project in December 2013. The entire project is expected to cost approximately £12m and will involve fit-out of the centre with research equipment.
The centre will be constructed to conduct researches and focus on space and big data technologies.
It is expected to assist start-ups for translating fundamental research and capabilities at the UK ATC and at universities in order to expand their commercial footprint.
