KC Stadium

Multi-purpose KC Stadium in Kingston-upon-Hull in England will be upgraded with a new Philips computer-controlled LED lighting system.

The latest investment in Philips ArenaVision LED floodlighting will improve the game experience for footballers, fans and commentators, and ensure that stadium’s floodlighting meets the latest TV broadcast requirements.

Philips will install the lighting for the start of the 2015-2016 football season.

The Philips ArenaVision LED pitch floodlighting concept fulfils all contemporary and future field-of-play requirements such as light level, uniformity, glare rating and HDTV super slow-motion broadcasting.

Designed and optimised for TV coverage of football and other sports events, the lighting is expected to transform the KC Stadium into a multi-purpose entertainment venue.

The LED technology provides flexibility to control each floodlight individually and is integrated with a user interface and control system that enables fast system monitoring.

"This is not just a game changer for spectators but also for the future of the modern, multi-purpose stadium."

Stadium Management Company is the arena operator.

Stadium Management Company managing director John North said: "The new, state-of-the-art, energy-efficient, LED pitch lighting system for the KC Stadium delivers the ability to instantly change from one light setting from another.

"This is not just a game changer for spectators but also for the future of the modern, multi-purpose stadium, a key feature of the operational strategy for our sporting venues."

To be used to create special entertainment lighting effects, the Philips ArenaVision LED control system will also provide the opportunity for the floodlights to be integrated into pre and post-match light shows.

Philips Lighting UK public lighting director Andy Gowen said: "The main priority for professional sports venues has always been to ensure the correct light levels on the pitch but with the arrival of the digital age, there is a great deal more on offer."
