Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) has launched a new AED1.1bn ($300m) smart city project, which will be served by electric vehicles.
The 150,000m² project is planned to be constructed within Dubai Silicon Oasis, called Silicon Park, and will offer 97,000m² of office space, 25,000m² of commercial space, 20,000m² of residential area.

The project will also feature a 115-room business hotel, restaurants, cafés, health and fitness centres, running tracks and cycling trails, prayer rooms, a shopping centre and underground parking for over 2,500 cars.
It will also house a spectrum of office spaces and modern business facilities, including meeting halls, a multi-use conference centre, residential units and spaces for retail outlets.
Sustainable elements of the project include the use of green roofs, solar panels and double-glazed windows to reduce heat absorption.
The green roofs will have plants and trees that require minimal irrigation and utilise the direct sunlight on the buildings.

By GlobalDataDSOA said the project will optimise renewable energy resources and will aim to achieve efficiency in energy consumption.
DSOA chairman Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum said that the project articulates Dubai’s Vision 2021 to transform the Emirates into a smart city, while ensuring that it remains on par with the latest global trends.
"We are confident that this project will succeed in offering a modern lifestyle for residents, workers and visitors," Al Maktoum said.
Construction work has started on the project and it is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2017.
Dubai Silicon Oasis is a wholly-owned entity of the Dubai Government and operates as a free-zone technology park for the semiconductor, microelectronic and other high-technology companies looking to establish their regional headquarters and research and development facilities.
