New York University (NYU) has selected architecture firms Davis Brody Bond and KieranTimberlake to design its new facility along Mercer Street between Houston and Bleecker.
Expected to fulfill academic space required for the university, the new building will have classrooms, teaching spaces for performing arts, a sports facility, as well as student and faculty housing.

During the initial process, the design team will approach stakeholders in the university community and its neighbors to gain feedback from sessions and proceed with an iterative design process.
New York University operations executive vice-president Alison Leary said: "We chose this superb team for several reasons.
"First and foremost, we chose them for their reputation for design excellence.
"NYU understands it will be held to a high standard for architectural excellence and we believe we have selected the right team for this important project.
The university launched a request for quotation (RFQ) and request for proposal (RFP) process in mid-2014 with 16 initial firms, as well as the Davis Brody Bond and KieranTimberlake team.
Davis Brody Bond partner William Paxson said: "We are well aware of the significance of the project for NYU and for the neighborhood.
"A terrific amount of work by the NYU community has already gone into developing the program, goals and design principles of this new building."
