Dartmouth Leverone Digital Lumens lighting upgrade

Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, US, has upgraded to an intelligent LED lighting system by Digital Lumens to reduce energy consumption at its renovated Leverone Field House.

Dartmouth College energy programme manager PE, LEED AP Steve Shadford said: "Due to Leverone’s 60ft arching roof and more than two acres of interior space, lighting the field house has always been a challenge, requiring over-lighting with high-wattage fixtures and constant re-lamping due to lamp source degradation.

"With the Digital Lumens system, we have both the control and flexibility to meet the needs of the groups and teams that use the site, while making significant progress toward our energy management goals."

The 91,000ft² facility featured 1,000W metal halide fixtures, which have now been replaced with intelligent LED high bay fixtures. The upgrades can save up to 75% of lighting energy and help achieve NCAA-specified lighting levels.

"We have both the control and flexibility to meet the needs of the groups and teams that use the site."

Indoor track, multi-use practice areas for various team sports, and weight room in the Field House is used throughout the day for working, practice or event schedules, which necessitate various lighting requirements.

Digital Lumens president and CEO Tom Pincince said: "With this deployment, the college joins the growing ranks of leading sporting facilities transitioning to intelligent LED solutions that optimise lighting delivery and savings, with the flexibility to support changing lighting needs."
