Construction has started at the A$122m ($94m) Carrara sports precinct, which is being built for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Queensland, Australia.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Minister for the Commonwealth Games Kate Jones joined Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate to mark the beginning of the project’s initial phase, the A$101m ($77m) Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre.

Palaszczuk said that: "The centre is a major piece of infrastructure for the Gold Coast and will accommodate a wide range of court sports, including basketball, netball, indoor soccer and badminton."
The games venue is expected to generate 400 jobs during its design and construction.
Jones said: "The Commonwealth Games infrastructure programme is an important investment in the region that will not only generate 1000 jobs during design and construction, but also ensure the local community; local business and local industry reap long term benefits from the event."
Carrara Sports Precinct is said to act as the centrepiece for the Commonwealth Games.
