Community interest company LiveWire has appointed UK-based developer BAM Construction as the preferred contractor for the first phase of the £16m project for transforming the existing Great Sankey Leisure Centre in Warrington into a neighbourhood hub.
The sports centre, located at the western part of town, will be revamped into a state-of-the-art, integrated facility offering leisure, health and cultural services.

Design of the hub will be dementia friendly to support the community, and was developed after a consultation period involving more than 700 local residents. Suggestions from 60 participants have been incorporated into the final plan.
Scheduled to open to the public late next year, the centre will comprise a fitness suite, swimming pools, sports hall, tennis courts, 3G pitch, GP surgeries, a library, cafe, and health and well-being facilities, including a spa.
