Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) has recalled the concrete works tender for the Guggenheim museum on Saadiyat Island.
TDIC delayed the contract for works at the museum, which was designed by Frank Gehry, after a review of its procurement strategy.

The state-owned company announced that the contract will be retendered at a later date, and that TDIC will welcome proposals from all contractors.
The Guggenheim is being built on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island, a proposed cultural district overlooking the Persian Gulf.
The island could also host a national museum, a performing arts centre and a branch of the Louvre.
In March 2011, companies including the UAE’s Al Habtoor-Leighton Group, Dubai builder Arabtec, Saudi Oger, Egypt’s Orascom Construction and South Korea’s Samsung C&T submitted bids for the $108.9m contract.
Preliminary ground work on the 450,000ft2 museum has been completed and it is scheduled for completion by 2013.
