
Swedish construction company NCC has secured a contract worth about $37.6m (SEK345m) to upgrade two harbours in Northern Norway.
On behalf of Hammerfest Municipality and the Norwegian Coastal Administration, the construction company will upgrade harbours in Hammerfest and Forsöl.
The contract follows order from the Norwegian Environment Agency to clean the polluted sediment on the seabed in Hammerfest Harbour.
The construction company will work on the project together with its subsidiary Sjöentreprenören.
The scope of work under the contract involves comprehensive environmental remediation work as well as upgrade of two harbours.
As part of the project, the existing quay structure will be demolished and a new one will be constructed.

By GlobalDataIt will also involve installation of a depository for contaminated material, along with environmental dredging and capping in Hammerfest Harbour.
The project also includes deepening of the harbours in Hammerfest and Forsöl.
Work on the project is scheduled to begin as soon as possible with completion planned in August 2023.
NCC Infrastructure business area head Kenneth Nilsson said: “This assignment demonstrates NCC’s broad competence.
“We have extensive experience of handling similar assignments and have our own resources for the work that takes place in water. We look forward to playing a part in the upgrade and improvement of the harbors in Hammerfest and Forsöl.”
Last month, NCC secured a SEK400m contract to build 164 residential units in Jönköping, Sweden, for municipal housing company, Vätterhem.
The project includes 44 sheltered housing units and 120 rental units in the Strandängen city district of Jönköping.
