Multiplex has started construction on Atlas Melbourne, a 72-storey residential skyscraper developed by SP Setia at 383 La Trobe Street in the Central Business District (CBD) of Melbourne, Australia.
The project, valued at A$525m ($373.8m), is set to deliver more than 850 apartments and new resident facilities.

The Atlas Melbourne site covers 2,851m² and previously held the former Australian Federal Police headquarters, a building constructed in 1985 that is now being demolished as part of early works.
The high-rise, designed by Fender Katsalidis and Cox Architecture, will feature new pedestrian pathways connecting La Trobe and Little Lonsdale Streets.
Multiplex said Atlas will be among the first major residential towers to begin construction in Melbourne’s CBD in several years.
The development follows the previous collaboration between Multiplex and SP Setia at 308 Exhibition Street, which included the Sapphire by the Gardens residential tower and a Shangri-La hotel.
Multiplex regional managing director Ross Snowball said: “Atlas will be one of the first major residential towers to break ground in Melbourne’s CBD in years. It is a powerful vote of confidence in city living and Melbourne’s future.

Atlas Melbourne is designed to offer apartments ranging from studios to penthouses, supported by amenities including a Sky Club, a Horizon Club with co‑working spaces, and a Wellness Club.
At its peak, the project is expected to employ around 450 on-site workers.
Multiplex has identified two key technical challenges: building a four-level basement on the constrained CBD site and managing the project’s proximity to the City Loop train tunnel.
Completion of Atlas Melbourne is anticipated by 2030.

Earlier this month, Multiplex was selected by the Queensland Government to construct the new Coomera Hospital, a 600-bed facility with a value of A$2.3bn ($1.6bn).
