Aberdeen Football Club has appointed Morrison Construction as the principal contractor for the construction of the club’s community sports hub and football training facilities at Kingsford, Scotland.
The club has raised £8.5m for this phase of the project.
Along with previous donations, additional investments from US investor Tom Crotty and AFC board director Dave Cormack enabled the club to appoint a principal contractor.
Aberdeen Football Club chairman Stewart Milne said: “The fundraising is a work in progress, but we’ve secured sufficient funds, with more in the pipeline, that gives us the confidence to proceed.
“Completing the training facilities as soon as possible is vital in order to retain players and management, attract new talent, and develop future talent through the football academy.”
The club has also allocated an additional budget of £1m for the first phase, thereby taking the total budget to £11.5m.

By GlobalDataThis investment will cover additional grass pitches for the community and an upgraded specification for the 3G grass pitches, which includes irrigation and a hybrid surface with undersoil heating.
Project director Raymond Edgar said: “We committed to appointing local firms where possible so that our overall £50m investment secures and creates jobs and boosts the local economy.”
With the appointment of the principal contractor, the total value of contracts has now reached around £8m.
Morrison Construction will manage the construction of all the various elements through to completion. These include one grass pitch, the training pavilion, groundsman’s accommodation, three professional training pitches and two 3G pitches. The grass pitch will primarily be used by Aberdeen Football Club’s Community Trust.
Construction of the project is expected to be completed by mid-2019.
Morrison is currently in the process of appointing all the subcontractors, most of which are local firms.
WM Donald has been contracted for civil engineering work; Hunter Construction for delivering 3G pitches; specialist company Greentech to create professional training pitches; Hutcheon Services to design and implement plumbing, mechanical and electrical works.
Earlier this year, McIntosh Plant Hire won the contract to carry out earthworks and ground remediation.
Contracts for the complete project are expected to initially create around 150 jobs.
