Morgan Sindall has further expanded its collaboration with the University of Oxford in the UK to construct the Institute for Global Health building.

The £32m ($40.38m) project will deliver a 4,700m² building with facilities designed to house 400 staff and 330 researchers across three floors. The building will have no formal laboratories.

The Global Health building will serve as a central hub for the university’s worldwide health activities.

It aims to merge the site’s Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health with parts of the Oxford Population Health building.

This strategic investment in medical research infrastructure is intended to enhance the university’s collective expertise in the field.

The building will be constructed, insulated, and ventilated to adhere to the stringent Passivhaus-based standards for energy efficiency and environmental impact.

Passivhaus is said to offer proven methods for creating energy-efficient buildings, ready for net-zero standards.

To meet this criteria, Morgan will implement solutions, including the use of sustainable materials and construction technologies.

Morgan Sindall Construction area director James York said: “This state-of-the-art building will provide a modern, flexible space that will become a focal point for the university’s world-class medical research and it’s a privilege to play a role in its creation.

“The project will be a labour of love and we can’t wait to deliver something that is truly remarkable, created harnessing talents, skills, products and sustainable technologies and techniques to make it a Passivhaus building. The innovative work that will be carried out in the building after it’s completed will play a key role in driving UK medical research forward too, so it will truly leave a lasting legacy.”

The university selected the construction company to construct its first new college in 30 years, Reuben College, in 2020.
