English football club Manchester City FC has received planning permission from Manchester City Council for a £300m expansion at Etihad Stadium, UK.

This comes after the club’s fan and community consultations in February and March of this year, as well as the filing of the club’s planning application earlier in April.

Among the approved designs are multiple connected all-weather facilities entirely incorporated into the stadium and located on an extended North Stand with a single upper tier above the present lower tier, boosting total stadium capacity to more than 60,000.

A sky bar overlooking the pitch will be placed above the upper tier alongside a stadium roof walk experience.

Primary on-site construction work is expected to begin in November this year, with the North Stand hoped to be completed and open for the 2025/2026 season.

The affiliated hotel, office, and public realm projects, including City Square, are a part of the club’s overarching development plans and are expected to be completed by late 2026.

While the capacity of the North Stand’s second deck will temporarily decrease during construction, Season Ticket Members and Cityzens Matchday Members will be unaffected for the 2023/2024 season.

Manchester City Operations managing director Danny Wilson said: “We are delighted that Manchester City Council’s planning committee has approved the club’s proposals for a best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad Stadium.

“This development will not only enable the club to enhance and expand its offering to fans and visitors on both match day and non-match day, but it will also create lasting long-term economic and social benefits for our local community, building on the regeneration work City Football Group has delivered in East Manchester since 2008.”
