Everton Football Club has selected Laing O’Rourke as the preferred contractor for the new football stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock on Liverpool’s waterfront in the UK.

Planned to be built within Peel L&P’s Liverpool Waters site in England, the new 52,888-seat football stadium will comprise four stands, including a large, steep home stand to the south that will accommodate 13,000 Evertonians on match days.

Laing O’Rourke and Everton, which will now jointly develop a detailed and robust design and delivery programme, are expected to sign pre-construction services agreement for a design and build contract following a competitive procurement process.

Liverpool City Council has already started formal consultation on the planning application for the project.

Designed by Architect Dan Meis, the stadium is expected to deliver a £1bn boost to the city’s economy.

Subject to planning consent expected in the summer of 2020, work on the new stadium is scheduled to commence later this year.

Construction on the waterfront stadium is planned to be completed in three years.

The stadium forms part of The People’s Project, which will also comprise a community-led legacy at Goodison Park.

Laing O’Rourke director Paul McNerney said: “Our local team, supply chain and consultant partners have worked with us across many major schemes in Liverpool including Liverpool ONE, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

“The People’s Project will allow us to advance our commitment to training, skills and careers in the area – and to support Everton in the Community in their wonderful life-changing and life-saving work.”

Everton chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale said: “Working alongside colleagues at Laing O’Rourke we will develop our construction programme, while at the same time continuing to engage with our supporters on a number of matters as we await our planning application to be determined by Liverpool City Council.”
