UK-based drinks manufacturer Innocent is set to commence construction on the $250m carbon-neutral factory in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Integrated Food Projects (IFP), a food and drink capital investment consultancy and a unit of engineering consultancy company NIRAS Group, is working with Innocent to help establish the drinks factory in the Port of Rotterdam’s new Food Hub.

Expected to create 190 jobs, the blender factory will be equipped to produce around 400 million bottles of their chilled juices and smoothies annually. The products are planned to be exported to 17 European countries.

IFP managing director Matt Carr said: “Carbon neutrality is a moving target, so while green diesel and biomass energy were considered green fuels as recently as 2017, today they are not. This meant we needed to future-proof this factory, so that innocent would continue to uphold the high sustainability standards it had set out to achieve.”

The blender factory, which is in the early stages of construction, is planned to be commissioned in mid-year 2021.

Innocent group supply chain director Chris Fielden said: “Integrated Food Projects is an invaluable partner for us, as alongside engineering expertise, the team is able to provide independent consultancy on how the new factory should operate and where it should be built.”

NIRAS said that the factory will use as little water as possible as well as reduce, reuse and recycle waste that is created during the processing.

NIRAS process industry senior vice president Thomas Olsen said: “We are now able to offer our clients in the food and beverage industry a comprehensive package of food business consulting as well as advanced technical engineering solutions.”
