UK-based construction company Interserve Group has completed an £80m development project at Mount Oswald site for Durham University.
The project involved the construction of a student accommodation facility for John Snow College as well as the new South College.
The two new colleges provide purpose-built, self-catering accommodation for 1,000 students with each college comprising common rooms, support offices and café bar.
Interserve said that the student accommodation were developed in a cluster of flats and townhouses format.
The townhouses were built using traditional construction methods while the flats were delivered using an innovative off-site system.
The new college is said to be the first facility constructed for Durham University in 14 years. The company also noted that construction work continued throughout the COVID-19 pandemic following social distancing guidelines.
