India’s Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has initiated a step to conduct an audit of construction quality and safety aspects of the already constructed and under-construction road stretches, reported Times of India.
The ministry has selected six independent experts to analyse various stretches of the flagship Char Dham road project in the state of Uttarakhand.
According to officials, this mechanism would be ‘institutionalised’ for the highway sector.
This mechanism is intended to ensure that the construction of the road projects in the country aligns with the requisite parameter quality set by the government.
The experts will review the setup of engineers, including their capability for handling the projects.
Besides assessing the quality of work and services by contractors, they will be tasked with identifying the bottlenecks in the projects.
