Switzerland-based contractor Implenia has been commissioned to construct the double-track Tangenvika railway bridge by Bane NOR in Norway.

Bane NOR is Norway’s state-owned rail operator.

The total contract value is around $200m (NOK1.8bn).

This double-track, 1,022m-long prestressed concrete-bridge is set to become the country’s biggest bridge.

Around 2km-long section of the bridge will be on land.

The project will feature a wildlife flyover to safeguard the ecosystems around Lake Mjøsa.

This lake is an important source of drinking water and has rich wildlife.

Implenia has secured the contract because of its best rating in terms of quality and price.

Excavated material is expected to be dealt in a way that only few transport trips will be required, stated Implenia.

Implenia head of civil engineering division Christian Späth said, “We are very proud to be able to build the Tangenvika Bridge and thank Bane NOR for their trust in Implenia. The project has a clear focus on sustainability – one of Implenia’s five corporate values. We will live this in the project by working systematically to meet both the technical and the ecological requirements. The project will be CEEQUAL-certified.”

The planning and implementation of the project will be wholly digitised with building information (BIM) modeling.

The project will begin in the second quarter of this year and is anticipated to be finished in 2027.
