Spanish multinational electric utility company Iberdrola has announced plans to build new 63MW wind project, named Herrera complex, in Burgos province, Spain.

As part of the plan, the firm has awarded a contract to Siemens Gamesa to supply SG 4.5-145 wind turbines for three wind farm projects that will make up the Herrera complex.

The three projects in the Herrera Complex include 18MW La Huesa, 13.5MW Valdesantos and 31.5MW Orbaneja.

The Orbaneja and La Huesa wind farms will be built in the municipalities of Isar, Las Quintanillas, Rabé de las Calzadas and Estepar, while Valdesantos project will be located in Estepar.

The Siemens Gamesa’s SG 4.5-145 wind turbine features a new 71m blade and a diameter of 145m. It is integrated with new technology designed to maximise energy production.

Additionally, Iberdrola said that it is building the 10MW Fuenteblanca wind farm in Spain. It will comprise three units of SG 3.4-132 wind turbines.

By 2030, Iberdrola is planning to install 10,000MW of projects, which are expected to create 20,000 jobs.

In Spain, the company is planning to install 3,000MW of wind and solar projects by 2022 using advanced technologies to increase the competitiveness and sustainability of its projects.

The firm said in a statement: “It is also reinforcing its commitment to Castilla y León and its leadership in renewable energies in the region, where it already operates 5,100 MW – of this, 1,500 MW is from wind -, making this the autonomous community with the most ‘green’ megawatts installed by the company.”

The company is also developing 350MW of photovoltaic projects including the 300MW solar project in Ciudad Rodrigo and a 50MW project in Villarino in the province of Salamanca.

Additionally, the firm secured grid access for a further 500MW renewable power capacity including a large wind farm with 300MW capacity and a 200MW solar project.
