Hanwha Q Cells has announced its plans to construct a new 150MW solar power plant in the US state of Wyoming under an electricity supply agreement with an energy firm, reported Yonhap news agency.

Hanwha Q Cells is the solar solutions unit of South Korean conglomerate Hanwha Group.

Under this power supply agreement with an undisclosed company, Hanwha is required to provide electricity on a long-term basis to an energy company at the negotiated prices.

Further details about the contract were not divulged.

The solar power plant in Wyoming is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

Once operational, this plant will generate about 350GW-hours of green electricity annually, which is sufficient to be used by around 390,000 people annually.

Hanwha Q Cells has been participating in clean energy projects in South Korea and overseas .

The company finished building the 168MW solar power plant in Texas and started developing a 380MWhr energy storage system in the same state last year.

Earlier this month, three South Korean firms – Korea Electric Power, Samsung C&T and Korea Western Power – signed an agreement with a UAE firm Petrolyn Chemie to construct a $1bn green hydrogen and ammonia production plant in the UAE.

This plant will be able to generate annually up to 200,000t of green ammonia per year, reported Reuters.

Green hydrogen is generated by splitting water from oxygen with the help of renewable electricity.

It will help to cut down greenhouse gas emissions.

The facility will be constructed in two phases in the KIZAD Industrial Area near Abu Dhabi.
