The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) has revealed the planned construction of a new spectator pavilion at South Dakota Circuit in Guyana, South America.

The initiative is backed by the government of Guyana.

The announcement comes after the government allocated G$4.6bn ($21.08m) for sports advancement in its 2024 national budget.

GMR&SC president Mahendra Boodhoo expressed appreciation for the government’s support, underscoring the initiative’s role in advancing motorsport in the country.

The new pavilion will provide amenities such as washrooms and shaded areas, thereby improving the experience for spectators.

Motorsport in Guyana is noted to have been evolving, with growing inclusivity, faster cars, and closer competition.

The pavilion is said to represent a commitment to enhancing the spectator experience and promoting the sustained popularity of motorsport in Guyana and the Caribbean.

Additionally, South Dakota Circuit has recently seen an extension to 1.6 miles, which is noted to have made an impact on the sport’s growth in the country.

Last year, Boodhoo actively participated in the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) General Assemblies meeting held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

During the FIA General Assemblies, Boodhoo’s main goal is noted to have been to seek collaborations and use FIA programmes to develop local motorsport and attract tourists.
