Florida Southern College (FSC) has broken ground of the Adams Athletic Performance Center, the newest building to be constructed on the campus in Lakeland, Florida.
The building is named after trustee Robert J. Adams.
The centre will play a crucial role in enlisting and retaining talented student-athletes.
Designed to offer around 16,000ft2 of space for the college’s NCAA Division II athletic programmes, the centre is expected to impact more than 550 student-athletes on the campus.
It will feature a 5,000ft2 varsity weight room, a theatre with a capacity to accommodate 40 people for film review, a conference room overseeing Lake Hollingsworth, and an academic centre.
The centre will have office suites for women’s and men’s basketball, women’s and men’s lacrosse, besides a ‘state-of-the-art’ women’s lacrosse locker room.

By GlobalDataFSC president Anne B. Kerr said: “Bob and Ginny Adams have taken a leadership role with their transformational gift to the College to support our athletic programs.
“Together with their son, Joel, and his wife Kelly, we can now better support our student-athletes as they work towards their next national championship. FSC has 30 national championships and is excited about continuing our scholar-athlete winning tradition.”
The athletic performance centre is designed by architect M. Jeffrey Baker of the firm Mesick Cohen Wilson Baker of Albany, New York.
Baker has served as the lead architect for the college’s restoration of Wright’s historic structures.
