US-based premier financial services firm Zions Bancorporation has unveiled plans to build a 400,000ft² technology campus in Midvale, Utah.

The campus is planned to be built on the former Sharon Steel Mill Environmental Protection Agency Superfund site. It is expected to be completed in mid-2022.

Zions plans to use the sustainably built campus as its primary technology and operations centre, serving its seven affiliate brands in 11 western states.

Zions Bancorporation chairman and CEO Harris Simmons said: “This environment-friendly campus will help us attract the best technology talent in the country while also reducing our overall facilities costs.”

The project, which will use low VOC-emitting construction materials, will feature triple-pane exterior glass, and ultra-efficient heating and cooling systems. It will use solar energy to meet 75% of its power needs.

Additionally, the campus is expected to create estimated 1,500 jobs during the construction phase.

Utah Governor Gary Herbert said: “Zions Bancorporation’s new campus will have a significant economic impact on the city of Midvale, as well as the surrounding cities, the state, and indeed the entire Intermountain West.

“Investments of this nature are critical to the ongoing growth, innovation and success of our state’s economy and our financial services and technology sectors.”

In addition to offering proximity to the Historic Gardner Village light rail station, the project will feature electric vehicle charging stations.

Okland Construction and Layton Construction will build the project, which is designed by architectural firms WRNS Studios, and Method Studios. It is managed by Gardner Company.
