Excavation works have begun on Lot H41 Gola del Sill-Pfons, which is considered one of the biggest sections of the Brenner Base Tunnel in Austria.
This 64km Brenner Base Tunnel is expected to become the world’s longest railway tunnel.
Linking Italy and Austria, it will be a part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
The entire project is being overseen BBT SE.
Commissioned by BBT SE, Lot H41 Gola del Sill-Pfons is being built by Webuild and its Swiss subsidiary CSC Costruzioni with joint-venture partner Implenia.
The Gola del Sill-Pfons lot is expected to create up to 400 direct jobs and more than 1,000 for third parties.

By GlobalDataThis lot involves building the railway from Gola del Sill near the city of Innsbruck to the town of Pfons.
Furthermore, this lot includes construction of a total of 22.5km of the two main parallel tunnels, with 38 cross passages.
It will see creation of an underground emergency stop at Innsbruck, access tunnels, exploratory tunnels and parts of other secondary tunnels.
A bridge over the Brennero A13 highway will also be constructed.
Webuild is currently working on other lots of the Brenner Base Tunnel, including the Isarco River Underpass and Mules 2-3 in Italy following completion of Tulfes-Pfons in Austria.
It is also constructing the railway between Fortezza and Ponte Gardena south of the tunnel.
